FAQ's: Virtual Edition

VIRTUAL RACE WEEKEND FAQ'S

What is a virtual run?
Our version of a virtual run is an event that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, handcycle, pushrim or walk. You can do this on the sidewalk, on a track, on a treadmill or on a trail, as long as you use recommended safety precautions. You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself.

Where should I run? What’s the course?
There is no set course this year. Make your own and have fun with it! We want you to run with only those you have been self-isolating with in order to keep everyone healthy. Please be sure to follow the CDC guidelines and keep 6 feet away from anyone that you run around, or by, to keep as safe as possible.

Will this race be timed?
Not officially.  You can complete the 5k at your own pace, and time yourself. You will be able to upload your times, but we are not tracking for awards. Since everyone will run/walk on a different route, with varying elevation, and terrain, we are not giving out awards based on fastest times.

How do I post my results to prove I did it?
Go to the results tab at the top of the page or click this link (you will also receive and email on race morning!). It's an honor system this year. We would love for you to post your time so we can give you a virtual high-five, but since everyone will be running on different courses, we will not be giving out awards for fastest times this year.

Can I run the usual 5k course at the brewery in Windsor, VT?
No. Our course takes place on Route 5 and is not safe without the help of local officials. Harpoon does not condone group running, nor pre-post run gatherings during the COVID-19 crisis.

We realize that this year is different than in past years, but in lieu of recent events and the need to practice social distancing, we do not want people coming to the brewery and running the course that they have in the past. Please help us make this a successful virtual run by choosing your own, brand new 5k course!

Can I run with a stroller?
As long as you feel safe running with a stroller or a jogging stroller, feel free to do so!

Can I run with my dog?
Sure! If your pup enjoys a nice long run as much as you do, feel free to bring your 4-legged friend along! Looking for a dog friendly virtual run for another good cause? We also have our Harpoon Dogtoberfest on October 4th, 2020!

Do I have to be over 21 years old?
No, this year's event is open to people of all ages. You must be 21+ to register for the Pick Up option, since that package includes beer. Under 21? Sign up for the other options, where all ages are welcome.  (If you are under the age of 18, we do need your parent to sign the waiver.)

When is the rain date?
There is no rain date. The Harpoon Virtual Flannel 5k is RAIN OR SHINE.

I am not from New England, can I still participate?
This year's event is a virtual running event, so there are no geographical boundaries to participation. We encourage everyone, runners and non-runners, from around the world to join us to raise much needed funds for patient care and research at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center.

What happened to teams?
The whole point of this virtual run/walk is to encourage social distancing during COVID-19. We do not want you to be in a group or with anyone that you have not been self-isolating with.  Please help us in our efforts to be sure we take every precaution necessary to help flatten the curve.

REPEAT do NOT run in a group that you have not been self-isolating with. Please help us have a responsible and successful virtual race.

What if I can’t run on race day? Can I get a refund or transfer my registration to someone else?
Registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable. Please know that your race fee is going to an amazing cause.

What happened to Volunteer sign-ups?
Due to this being a virtual race, we do not need volunteers. This is the year that you can participate and run or walk in the Harpoon Flannel 5k!

What if I can't pick up my packet at the brewery?

Participants who choose to pick up their packets at the Harpoon Brewery must pick up during the dedicated pick up windows. Learn more here
